Burnt Rock Canyon Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
A 3 cup camoed container, It should be find-able without digging
until more than 3 feet of snow. Cache is placed just beyond a
little canyon along the Long Trial on the way to Burnt Rock Mt,
This is the 3rd of 4 caches I have placed on these trails.
The trail begins at the parking lot at the end of Big Basin Road
before the steel pipe gate. You follow the Hedgehog Brook Trail
after crossing a stream that might be a problem during heavy rain
or spring snow melt. The trail ascends gently at first, becoming
steeper as you get higher. After 2 miles, it joins the Long
Trail.
The canyon is about a quarter mile after you join the Long Trail.
If you continue on to the summit, you will be treated to some of
the best viewing on the Long Trail. The last .25 mile along the
Long Trail, has open ledges that might be dangerous in icy
conditions.
I am told that shortly after joining the Long Trail, a short spur
trail to the left leads to a small glacial pothole, one of the
largest in New England.
I intend to track this pothole down!!!!
