Vööla meri on endine avatud laht, mis nõukogude ajal suleti tammiga, et rajada lahe suudmesse kalakasvanduse basseinid. See tegi loodusele aga karuteene. Lahe suudmesse ehitati küll truubid, kuid need olid liiga väiksed ja ei võimaldanud Vööla mere ning Hara lahe vahel piisavat looduslikku veevahetust. Vööla meres hakkas vohama roog ja vesi haises. Esimese Eesti vabariigi ajal veel avatud olnud laht hakkas muutuma lõugaseks.
Selleks, et üha enam kinnikasvavat soolase veega veekogu päästa, oli vaja paarikümmet kohalikku elanikku ja sama palju aastaid. 22.10.2011 avati kauaoodatud uus sild ja avar truup.

Vööla meri (meri: est. – “sea”) is a former bay (relict lake, coastal lagoon), which was closed by dam during the Soviet era to build the pools for the fish farm. This made a disservice for the environment, however. Culverts were built at the dam, but they were too small and did not allow adequate natural water exchange with the sea. The “sea” began to overgrow and stink.
In october 2011 the long awaited new bridge and culvert were opened.
