Geocache Description:

A puzzle cache to introduce those that are new to the game to the amazing geocaching community here in Rhode Island

At the time of placing this hide, I've been caching for a little over 2 years.  Although my caching has been limited to Rhode Island and Massachusetts (someday, Connecticut, someday), I have come to the realization that RI has a pretty tight group of local cachers.  Events are a regular occurrence, and the handful I have been to are filled with cachers.  Many local cachers are active on the Groundspeak forums, and there is even an active Facebook page, the Rhode Island Geocachers Association.  Want to hit the trails with somebody?  A quick post on the Facebook page and within a few hours, you could very likely have a group of cachers venturing into the woods together or perhaps an army to conquer the latest evil yawppy hide.

If you're new to the game, here's a quick rundown on just a few of the names you'll be likely to come across as you cache in our awesome state:

The first name that comes to mind for many local cachers is that of KATnDOGZ. I like to think of KATnDOGZ as the puzzle master, both in terms on creating and solving. But it's not just the puzzles. Many of KATnDOGZ's cache containers are highly creative, such as her "Finding Bigfoot RI" cache! Another name you'd be likely to see across the state is that of Sidekeck. With over 50 hides, including the "American Idiom" series, you're likely to come across one of her caches. When you do, there's a good chance you'll laugh, curse her out, or perhaps do both! One of the big cachers in the East Bay community is RIClimber (formerly known as Downy288). RIclimber established many caches on the East Bay Bike Path, but also creates challenging puzzles, such as the aptly named "Puzzled." Patsfan2071 is a relative newcomer to the game, but has quickly established himself as a finding and hiding force. Look for his caches, including "Multi-style Multi" in Roger Williams Park!

If you ever venture into the central part of RI, you're sure to find some caches hidden by yawppy and Scubaaa. Yawppy is probably best known for his lavish puzzles, "evil hides," and more recently, his bizarre, yet entertaining "found it" logs. Scubaaa came onto the scene in 2011 and has already found over 2,000 caches. Like yawppy, Scubaaa likes placing an evil hide or two, such as "Inquire Within."

Three other prominent cachers in RI are ZeLonewolf, Hobo., and amazingted. ZeLonewolf began caching in 2003 and has found over 3,500 caches at the time of this cache being made. ZeLonewolf has hidden many classic hides in Big River and North Kingstown, and is the creator of the "Geocache-a-Day Club" challenge. Hobo. is an active cacher best known for his "Pointing Between the Stones" series (PBTS Providence being the most ambitious), among many other excellent caches. amazingted, although currently living outside RI, will always be an honorary RI cacher. He is most famous for creating the "Big River Ramble." AT only has one active cache left in RI, "Oh Yeah?"

If you're looking to cache in the Providence area, you'll most likely come across an Anonymike7 cache or two. Anonymike7 caches typically bring you to historic sites or urban oases that are definitely worth checking out. You might also catch a great view while at one of his caches.

Another cacher with abundant hides in Providence is Aerial. Aerial has established the "Providence Nano Series," an excellent cache series that leads cachers on a tour of many famous Providence landmarks. Aerial also has many other hides, including a series of "Rules" in beautiful Frenchtown Park. If you're looking for a tour of soil or cemeteries, check out some of my (Twohig260) caches. The "Soils of RI" cache series will have you digging dirt, and the "Cowesett Cemetery Tour" will show you some hidden cemeteries. Or perhaps you're in the mood for a robust adventure. MookieWilson (mw) caches certainly fit the bill. mw is based in Massachusetts, but you'll find some of his caches in northeastern RI, including the excellent "HOTH."

Speaking of amazing adventures, geoexpress and Fishheadjr are names you may come across if you're an adventurous cacher. If you cache at Wolf Hill, you be likely to come across some geoexpress caches. Want more hiking? Travel a bit further down Rt. 295 and you'll find his epic "Catamint" cache. Fishheadjr, although a MA cacher, owns quite a few highly regarded RI caches, including "The Emerald Storm."

If you're caching in Warwick (and elsewhere), you will certainly come across a Stewj and beehall cache. Stewj created the RIPTA series and has perfected the "hanging micro." beehall continued the spread of the RIPTA series, but also places hides in historic cemeteries, typically with his expertly crafted cap-on-cap cache containers!

One final prominent cacher, especially in the northeastern part of the state, is ritell. ritell puts out a lot of high quality hides and pulled off an excellent April Fool's joke in 2012! Lately, ritell has been creating some pretty tricky puzzles. "3" is a good example!

The cachers mentioned above are just a small part of the larger caching community here in RI. If you're caching in RI from out of state, we hope you enjoy yourself. Say hello if you see us on the trail rummaging under rocks or unnatural piles of sticks... we're a friendly bunch!

One final note: I apologize to the many other fine cachers that I have left out... there were only so many who would fit into this puzzle!

Congrats to Patsfan2071 for knowing his fellow geocachers!

You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude.
