The aim of this cache is to present a botanical speciality: the fen of Ásotthalom called Csodarét (“miracle meadow”) for this botanical richness.
ABOUT THE FEN
The meadow was discovered for botany by Mária Kószó biology teacher in 1988, and it was declared protected area in 1992. 251 plant species can be found here, and 15 of them is protected. The most important ones are the Bulbocodium vernum and the marsh gladiolus. Sadly, an average man can difficultly find even one of them.
Beside the cache there is a 4-km-long nature trail walking where we can get to know some more information of the marsh and the localities. The trail was established in the context of the Cross-border Cooperation Programme between Hungary and Serbia.
The area is one of the parts of Körös-ér Landscape Area. If you visit the surrounding area, you can see some other sights, for example the buffalo reservation in Mórahalom (GC1GEH8).
APPROACHING THE CACHE
If you come from Ásotthalom, go across the village, then turn left towards Kissor (Mórahalom). After that, follow the concrete road till this point: N 46° 11,563' E 19° 51,523' 140 m .
If you come from Mórahalom, turn to south at the central roundabout, then turn right at the first intersection and go as far as the same point. From there, you have to go on dirt road to the cache. The cache itself is near by the meadow, next to the road.
