About this region
This region is the place of the one-time Alsókak abandoned village in Belső(Inner)-Somogy sandy land. A couple of million years ago the giant Pannon-lake (it was situated in the whole Carpathian-basin) filled up with clayey alluvian deposits and a plain came in existence. This plain got elevated later and the ancient rivers covered over with layer of sand of 5…20 m thickness. The winds those were blowing mainly from North formed long-formed low sandhills and flat valleys. In the valleys the sand layer got thinner, came into sight the waterproof clay-layer, therefore swamps and shallow lakes came into existence. You can observe the essential difference between vegetation of sandhills and sloughly meadows at the 3rd stage. Here you can see an alder-tree swamp in the valley and a semi-desert on the top of the sandhill . You can see a clump meadow near the 4th stage.
