Geocache Description:

An urban micro celebrating New York's history of film and television.

The Cosby Show!

The Cosby Show, based on the stand-up comedy of Bill Cosby (an act which was in turn largely based on his family life), is one of the most influential television shows of the last thirty years. The highest-rated show of the 1980s (and one of only three shows in television history to top the Nielsons for five consecutive seasons), The Cosby Show is generally credited for reviving the traditional sitcom genre and anchoring NBC's turnaround and ascendancy to the top of the network heap. It was also one of the first shows (and by far the most successful) to translate a comedian's stand-up work into a weekly sitcom, paving the way for Roseanne, Home Improvement, Everybody Loves Raymond, and even Seinfeld.

The Huxtables lived in New York, although the writers left the precise location of the family's brownstone a bit ambiguous. The street address - 10 Stigwood Ave - doesn't exist (there is no Stigwood in any of the five boroughs). Clues and references sprinkled throughout the show's eight seasons establish Brooklyn (specifically, Brooklyn Heights) as the location of the Huxtable home, but interestingly the brownstone used for exterior shots is located not in Brooklyn, but in Greenwich Village on St. Luke's Place.

The Huxtable residence as it appeared in an exterior shot in Season 2; the same brownstone today:

The Munchkins LOVE The Cosby Show, and Munchkin #3 / Ty Fighter was only too happy to come out and help scout a location. He would like you all to know that we managed to hide and Ammo Can nearby! However, be forewarned that he was giggling like crazy at the time.

NOTE: The brownstone used for exterior shots is a private residence and as such please do not bother the good people living there. The cache is not located on or even particularly near their property, but is instead at the corner of an intersection, on the other side of a public park a short walk to the south and west.
