Lake Garancsi
Lake Garancsi is situated between Piliscsaba and Tinnye, in a picturesque location. As the only natural lake in the area it is a popular destination for outdoor activities. The area surrounding the lake is frequently used for open air events, concerts and parties. In winter it is popular for ice-skating. The lake was created by the blockage of a valley. It is fed by several springs at the bottom. Reeds and cattails are growing in the wetlands and around the lake.. It is home for several species of fish, e.g. carp, pike and bream.
Originally the lake covered 4 hectares but currently it`s smaller and suffered from excessive silt and sediments. The rehabilitation of the lake took place in 2009. They built a nature trail around it highlighting its history, flora and fauna. If you hike in the surrounding hills you get a beautiful view on the lake. When looking for the cache stay on the trail because the underbrush can be sharp and thorny.
You might want to include finding the Garancsi Hike and the Glass Tiger caches . If you would like to take a walk in the garancsi area you should start your hike at the Garancstető housing subdivision. From here take the dirt road into the forest, then a beautiful trail leading down to the lake. (6-8 minutes)
Directions
Take the bus from Tinnye or Piliscsaba. There is a bus stop by the lake.
By car you have free parking at the given points.
