Well, it was just a matter of time. Crashco and I got a new geodog recently and this cache is in her honor. "Emma" is a 9 year old West Highland White Terrier whom we adopted from the local Humane Society. If you are in the market for a dog, I strongly encourage you to visit your local shelter. There are 13 animal shelters in Vermont as well as many independent adoption services. Each year they find homes for thousands of pets, but still many need fur-ever homes.
Emma is turning out to be a great geodog. She walks off leash with no attempt to dart away despite being a terrier. She walks within feet of Crashco or myself at all times. There has been snow on the ground constantly since we met her (and it seems there always will be)and she loves to dig in it. When we think we have ground zero we simply point and she digs in the snow relentlessly seeking the cache. Her legs are very short and the snow has mostly been deeper than her tummy but that only slows her, it doesn't stop her. She wears her coat and booties without complaint. Overall, I think we really lucked out.
This is Emma's first hide but look for more to come. She might not hide as much as Winston, but she'll keep you hiking. This cache was hidden in deep snow, but is winter friendly at the time of publication. Hopefully it stays that way. The container holds a lot of swag so feel free to take even if you can't trade. I hid three caches that day and only one was big enough for a FTF prize, so I think this one will reward the FTF'er.
Good Luck and watch for Emma on the trail !
