Muki's Monologue
I am a small engine, called Muki. How can an engine be named Muki? I don't know. This has always been my name. My friends are Thomas, Percy, Molly - they are steam engines also.
I was born in 1894, in Germany, in the Berlin-Drewitz Orenstein & Koppel factory. I was built for a 600 mm gauge. Trains don't grow, so I will always stay a child due to my size. Child labor is not forbidden in the train world.
I don't know how I got to Hungary, but I know I pulled loads in Gyula, Miskolc, Ózd, carrying coal, iron, whatever was needed. Then I was brought here to Sztálinváros in 1958, and renewed in the Ironworks. I became the pioneers's train in the amusement park! Thousands of children traveled in the wagons I pulled. I will never forget their screams and laughs, those were the best four years of my life. Then in 1962 due to some trumped-up charges I was not allowed to run any more...
Muki Reborn
After being abandoned for decades, Muki got another chance. It turned into a statue - that children love to climb on. And the help came from children, too! Csaba Orosz, the commander of the Dunaújváros Fire Department initiated the renovation of Muki. The renovation was done with the help of the Dunaferr Co. by the the teachers and students of factory's vocational school. Rusty parts were fixed, missing part were remanufactured. More then 7,000 hours of labor were required to make Muki look beautiful again.
