Geocache Description:

Ambiorix was the leader of a Belgic (Gaul) tribe. He became famous due to his resistance against Julius Caesar in the 'Commentarii de Bello Gallico'. Modern Belgium is located in the region in which Ambiorix used to rule.

The Ambiorix series are taking my national hero through parts of Estonia where I often come.

Will you join his adventures?

Ambiorix and the animal bridge

At school Ambiorix learned about nature and animals. The Belgic tribe allways had been good hunters, but the Roman forces built one of their millitary highways right through the path that the animals take to come to the huntingplace where Ambiorix set up all the traps.

Ambiorix used the wisdom gathered at school and built an animal bridge. This way all the animals could safely cross the road and Ambiorix found his forrests full of animals to feed his tribe.

Ambiorix put a logbook near the bridge. All the Belgic warriors and their allies should make sure that the animals keep reaching the other side safely and are not disturbed while crossing. Being silent and not leaving trash behind, they can put their names in the logbook, so that Ambiorix knows the animal bridge is still safe.

However there is one very important aspect. Roman spies are taking guard in the center of the bridge 24/7 to inspect the animal behaviour. (They probably want to build an animal bridge themselves.) Make sure you do NOT progress to the center of the bridge as they might send a legion towards you. We do not want to alert the Romans on this one. ;)

Tools to bring: Pencil and camera (in case you might encounter an animal)

Article about the animal bridge

IMPORTANT NOTE: The new location of this cache is on private property with the approval of the landowner. Also we have the approval of the Estonian Road Administration to put this cache near the bridge. However, there is no approval for geocachers to go on the bridge. The nearest you can go, is until the end of the road where the cache is hidden. From there you have a nice view on the bridge to take pictures. Do NOT go any further please. In case of a problem, please contact me through the message system or by email.
