Geocache Description:

“Lost Bag, Sinister Contents!” found by local runner but location and owner unclear.

Further investigation and questioning of older local residents unearths a possible lead. This city has many myths and legends based on real events and maybe this is another one. The story went like this:

Many years ago a certain Dr R returned to the town of his birth after a posting in the war torn pacific. Late one night, when he was on duty in the surgical ward at the local hospital, he heard that a dreadful bus accident had occurred south of the city in a fog filled valley. The victims were being brought to the local hospital. Thinking his trauma skills would be helpful, he dashed down to the emergency department to help out. There was chaos and many people with severe injuries needed treatment.

Many lives were saved that night but many were left disfigured and deformed. Later questions were asked and Dr R became concerned that maybe he had acted in haste. He collected up the spare” bits” he had removed from the victims, loaded them into his own Drs bag and placed them in his locker. Later the next day he found a disgruntled porter and offering him a large bribe asked him to take his bag and dispose of it were it would not be found. The porter followed the Dr’s Orders and set off out of town. Heading deep into the wilderness, climbing up hill and down, the porter struggled on, the track getting smaller, the bag getting heavier. Finally after walking on a flatter part of the track and noticing the track was heading down the hill further, he gave up saying “this flat bit is as far as I’m going. I’m sure no-one will go up here.” He heaved the bag up the hill, scrambled up after it and then covered it with branches and ferns.

Maybe it is just the ramblings of a hypoxic disorientated lactic acid fuelled runner …… or maybe there is evidence out there to support the claim of Dr R’s gruesome night in the Emergency department, …. lost bags and missing body parts?? Do you really think so!!!!!!!
