Sopra Ora, sulla vasta cima di una collina rocciosa, si trova una località apparentemente mistica. Castelfelder è un'area ricca di singolare vegetazione che gode di un paesaggio che si distacca fortemente da quello delle zone circostanti. Flora mediterranea, prati stepposi, fratte, macchia, stagni e paludi sono protetti dal 1977.
Vi si accede seguendo il sentiero natura "Biotopo Castelfelder" nel corso del quale tavole informative illustrano la flora e la fauna della regione. Ma Castelfelder non è rinomato solamente per la sua ricca varietà di vegetazione.
Castelfelder è un insediamento preistorico, romano e altomedievale. Si trovano qui numerosi scavi, mura, siti archeologici e resti diroccati di antichi edifici. Alcuni rinvenimenti archeologici risalgono al II millennio prima di Cristo.
Visibili fin da lontano anche le rovine della cappella di Santa Barbara del IX secolo e la fortificazione che dà il nome a tutta l'area. Lo sguardo spazia lontano sulla Val d'Adige e i pensieri vagano pensando ai complessi avvenimenti storici. Numerose le leggende che avvolgono Castelfelder.

Oberhalb von Auer liegt, auf einer weiten Felsenkuppe, ein mystisch anmutender Ort. Castelfeder ist ein Gebiet mit einer einzigartigen Vegetation; einem Landschaftsbild, das sich von der Umgebung stark unterscheidet. Mediterrane Flora, Steppenrasen, Strauchwerk, Buschwald, Weiher und Moore stehen seit 1977 unter Schutz.
Mitten hindurch führt der Naturerlebnisweg „Biotop Castelfeder“ und erklärt auf Informationstafeln Flora und Fauna des Gebiets. Doch nicht nur für pflanzlichen Artenreichtum ist Castelfeder bekannt.
Castelfeder ist eine prähistorische, römische und frühmittelalterliche Siedlung. Viele Ausgrabungen, Mauern, Fundstätten und die verfallenen Reste ehemaliger Bauwerke befinden sich hier. Manche archäologischen Funde lassen sich bis ins 2. Jahrtausend vor Christus zurückdatieren.
Weithin sichtbar ist auch die Ruine der Barbarakappelle aus dem 9. Jahrhundert und die Burganlage, die dem Gebiet seinen Namen gibt. Weit reicht der Ausblick ins Etschtal. Weit reichen die vielschichtigen historischen Ereignisse. Zahlreiche Sagen ranken um Castelfeder.
This is a place full of mystery on the summit of a rocky hill, above Ora. Castelfelder has a unique vegetation and a landscape which is very different compared to that in the surrounding areas. Its Mediterranean flora, its shrubs, meadows, thickets, ponds and marshes have been protected since 1977.

You can access it by following the "Biotope Castelfelder" footpath with displays showing the flora and fauna of the region. Castelfelder is famous not only for its rich vegetation.
Castelfelder is also a prehistoric, Roman and medieval settlement. Here you can find numerous excavations, old walls, archaeological sites and the ruins of ancient buildings. Some archaeological findings date back to the II Millennium B.C.
From a distance you can also see the ruins of the IX century Chapel of Santa Barbara and the fortifications after which the whole area is named. The view of the Adige Valley that stretches into the distance calls to mind many historic events. Many legends surround Castelfelder.
