Kartlis Deda (Mother of Georgia) is a statue of a woman overlooking Tbilisi from Sololaki Hill. It was erected in 1958 to mark the 1500-year-anniverary of Tbilisi. The statue is about 20 meters high and shows a woman in traditional Georgian national dress. She symbolizes the Georgian character. In her left hand she holds a bowl of wine for all those who come as friends. I could enjoy this sense of Georgian hospitality myself! In her other hand, she holds a sword to fight off all those who come as enemies. Enjoy the view from the spot!
