The restaurant and museum was opened in July 2006. The older part of the building, where the museum is, was before used as sheep stables. The building is designed with a several meters high bookshelf on the outside of the building. These are the books of the famous Icelandic writer Þórbergur Þórðarson who the museum is dedicated to.
