Geocache Description:

Tartu kirikute aardesari kutsub teid külastama erinevaid Tartu kirikuid. Mõned neist saavad just praegu katusele uhket vaskplekki. Mõned on just ilmalikust kasutusest vabanenud. Mõned peidavad end väikestes majades keset elurajoone, teised on uhkete tänapäevaste ehitustega pilku püüdmas.

Tartu Pauluse kirik on juugendstiilis ehitatud kivikirik Tartu linnas, milles tegutseb EELK Tartu Pauluse kogudus. Kiriku arhitekt oli Eliel Saarinen ning on ainuke tänaseni säilinud tema Soome-perioodi kirik. Kirikut ehitati aastatel 1915-19. Augustis 1944 kirik põles, aga kohe alustati kiriku taastamisega. 1910-ndal aastal eraldus Maarja kogudusest Pauluse kogudus ja linn neile kinkis kiriku ehitamiseks maatüki Riia maantee ääres. Novembris 1919 õnnistati sisse kirik, neli aastat hiljem aga uus altar, mille keskse osa moodustas Amandus Adamsoni Carrara marmorist 3,5 meetri kõrgune skulptuurigrupp "Tulge minu juurde, kes te vaevatud ja koormatud olete".

The treasure series of Tartu churches invites you to visit various churches in Tartu. Some of them are getting a fancy copper sheet on the roof right now. Some have just been released from secular use. Some are hiding in small houses in the middle of the residential area, others are eye-catching with gorgeous modern constructions.

Tartu Paulus Church is a stone church built in Art Nouveau style in the city of Tartu, in which the EELK Tartu Paulus congregation operates. The architect of the church was Eliel Saarinen and it is the only church from his Finnish period that has survived to this day. The church was built in 1915-19. In August 1944, the church burned down, but the restoration of the church began immediately. In 1910, St. Mary's congregation separated from St. Paul's congregation and the city gave them a piece of land along the Riga road to build a church. In November 1919, the church was blessed, and four years later the new altar, the central part of which was the 3.5 meter high sculptural group of Carrara marble by Amandus Adamson "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened". The church was opened in 1966 after the restoration of the church damaged in the war fire. The church operated in a small part of the church building: behind the partition wall was the storage of the ethnographic museum and in the wing building was the Sports Museum.

After the final reconstruction of the church building, the main hall of the church became one of the largest concert halls in Tartu, which can accommodate up to 300 performers and approx. 1300 spectators.
