Geocache Description:

Our first cache placed, this is a reward (or reason) for walking the Eagle's Bluff Trail in Fairlee Town Forest. It provides arguably the best outlook onto Lake Morey, including a literal bird's-eye-view of historic Camp Aloha. From the closest access point it takes at least an hour roundtrip to walk the rigorous but manageable trail. Fairlee has over 35 miles of public trails through one of east-central Vermont's largest contiguous forests.

There are several points of access for this trail system, but the closest is the Upper Bald Top Rd. parking area.  Coordinates for this parking area are provided.  Also provided are coords for the parking at the base on Lake Morey Road, for those looking for a longer hike incorporating other geocaches or those whose cars have low ground clearance or do poorly off-road.  Starting from the base you can take the Rivendale (blue) Trail to the trailhead, same as you would from the upper parking area.  **Direct access from the geographically-closest point below on Lake Morey Road is NOT available and should not be attempted.**

From the upper parking, walk along the road to the trailhead.  Coords for the trailhead are also provided.  From there take the Rivendale (blue) Trail to the start of the Eagle's Bluff (yellow) Trail.  The yellow trail will take you the rest of the way without bushwhacking.  There are some turns and intersections with other trails, so use your directional sense and GPS to keep you moving in the right direction.  You’ll see a number of interesting sights during the hike to keep it engaging.

The Bluff is just over the hill after the long incline.  The stone outcropping is solid and completely safe for standing on, sitting and journaling, etc.  A few meters south of the Bluff is a nice rock for having a picnic or resting.

The cache is a small, red, metallic bison tube, with only room for the log.  It is not meant to be difficult to find for those seeking it, only for muggles.  (The hike is the heavy lifting here.  Call this a “hike + grab” if you will. 😉 )  GZ is fairly open to the sky, so coordinates should be fairly stable.  **The cache is NOT at or below the edge.  You will always be able to have firm footing while near it.**

The hint is a slam-dunk, no doubt spoiler.  Try to find on your own before peeking.

Congrats to DJ the geo-hog, along with Dakota & Chloie, for being FTF and for giving everyone a chance. 😊
