Geocache Description:

The Boyhood Memories caches series is a spin off my History of Littleton caches, but more anecdotal in nature.  More specifically this cache series will provide a synopsis of fond memories I had while growing up in the Long Lake area or as we said "The Lake" in the 1950/early 1960's era.

My memories of growing up in Littleton during the 50/60's was so different as compared to today. The norm was to be outdoors. At the time television was just evolving with only 2-3 channels to watch, so there was little reason to stay indoors. Parents would encourage their children to go outside, make friends and play. So we did. We played baseball, explored, swam, fished, built forts, went sledding or just hung out.

Toboggan Heaven

Like the summer, during the winter most kids would play outdoors. If there was a winter storm, enterprising young lads would seek to make a dollar by going door to door to ask if they could shovel a driveway or walkway. After the storm we would build snow forts and have snowball fights/wars, we'd shovel a spot on Long Lake to ice skate and play hockey but the most fun was sledding.

We'd grab our Flexible Flyer sleds and head to Clubhouse Hill or Horse Heaven (see Reference Waypoint) located at the top of Goldsmith St. and to the rear of Donelan's grocery store. Boys and Girls would spend the day sledding with their sleds or with a cardboard box fetched from Donelan's. We'd have contests to see who could sled the farthest.

One Christmas a close friend received a 4 person toboggan from Santa. We'd all go to Yapp's Hill with the family's permission and build the greatest toboggan run with sloped sides and jumps. We would spend the entire day there then come home very cold, tired and with frozen blue jeans and ice encrusted galoshes.

Parking is located near a now unused tower. Take the access road across from Nagog Hill Road. The container is not far; almost a park and grab. You're looking for a winter friendly camo pill bottle.
