Starfleet Academy - Ship recognition test for basic training
This geocache is only written in the Federation standard language. The use of an universal translator is possible if needed.
The geocache is designed to help the students of the Starfleet Academy to learn and visually regocnise Starfleet's starship classes.
Instructions:
- To find out the correct coordinates you must recognise of the following 12 Federation starship classes. We are not asking for the name of the ship, but the class of each ship.
- After you recognise a class, a numerical value of the class for the coordinates is calculated from the name of the class.
- Each letter in the alphabet represents a numerical value from A to Z. A = 1, B = 2, C = 3... to Z = 26.
- With each starship picture you are given either the order number (in square brackets) of a letter from beginning of the word (name of the class) or several numbers with a mathematical expression to calculate the value.
- The numbers in square brackets always represent the letters in the name of a class and the numbers without brackets represent their own value.
Example: Class 0 = n = [3] - [2] + 1
- You have recognised from the picture the class is the Nova class.
- The mathematical expression tells you to calculate n (=the piece of the coordinates) as follows: n equals value of the third letter (v = 22) minus the value of the second letter (o = 15) plus one equals 8. 22 - 15 + 1 = 8.
- The outcome 8 is the missing part “n” of the numerical value of the coordinates: n = 8.
You will get the correct coordinates to find the cache by placing the numerical values from the classes as follows:
N aa° bc.def E 0gg° hi.jkl
Class 1 = aa = [6] * 3 - [3] - 4

Class 2 = b = [4] - [6]

Class 3 = c = [3]

Class 4 = d = [1] - ([2] + [3])

Class 5 = e = [4] - ([1] * 3 + 2)

Class 6 = f = [3] - [4] - [7] + 1

Class 7 = gg = [3] + [6] + [4] * 2

Class 8 = h = [2] - [1] * 4

Class 9 = i = [3] * 2 + [1] * 2 - 1

Class 10 = j = [2] + [6]

Class 11 = k = [5] - [6] * 4

Class 12 = l = [10]
