C.A.S.S. = Caching Across Spencer Series
Once upon a time, a friend once told me of a way to hike across Spencer without needing to follow a street. It took me years, but I was able to find a way. From Burncoat Pond, across to the Mid State, over to Morgan Swamp, cutting across on snowmobile trails, into Howe State Park, and finally as far as the Depot Trail. This Series will do it's best to fill in gaps along this route and bring you on a hike across Spencer.
Cache is located off the Mid-State Trail inside the Massachusetts Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary. The first in the series. My biggest challenge was attempting to find a connector trail between Burncoat Pond and the Mid State trail. My last visit consisted of me bushwhacking around until I noticed this trail. It's very faint so I added waypoints for each end. Also be cautious of both the nearby deer stand and porcupine nest.
