Geocache Description:

[EST] Just siin Elva lähistel toimus 24. augustil 1944. aastal Eesti ja Baltikumi üks suurimaid tankilahinguid. Aardes EI OLE pliiatsit. Koordinaatide täpsus 4 meetrit. Olge valmis saama vaiguseks!

[ENG] On the 24th of August 1944 one of the largest tank battles in Estonia and the Baltics took place here. Since the Germans decided that Tartu couldn’t be held without tanks, army group „Nord!” sent one of its elite units here. After heavy fighting, the German Wehrmacht was forced to retreat because they were outnumbered and outgunned by the Red Army. Also, the German force had no general present, because he was severely injured in a car crash the night before. The ridge that you are standing on, General's Ridge, got its name from a Red Army general, who’s outpost was located here and was killed here by shrapnel. From this outpost, the general oversaw the battle and gave the orders to the heavy artillery guns to fire straight at the tanks with direct fire. After the war, a lot of wrecks of tanks and other armoured vehicles remained on the battlefield for years. There ISN'T a pencil in the cache, the accuracy of the coordinates is 4 meters. Prepare to be covered by resin!
