Geocache Description:

This cache contains a log sheet only & as the cache name suggests - your looking for a Strawberry -- about the average size.,so please bring a pen/pencil & tweasers or a paper clip that you can open up to claw the log sheet out to sign.  I hope that you enjoy your hike along this breathtaking scenic view!  If your going here during warm or hot weather -- bring your swimming gear. About 1.5 miles up stream is the first of 4 area- open air / roof covered (3 walls & roof) shelters(fyi-the first of which is Not within view of the others - first come-first to claim , complete with an outhouse about 80 feet away and a firepit directly in front of the shelter.  The shelter is about 80 feet from the river.  As you begin your hike up the trail from the Dunbar parking lot you'll start off with a formal built railing with decking floor which quickly ends as you step downward 5 feet or so to a nature trail that runs along the left side of the river.  When your about 4 miles up stream you'll encounter a recently built foot bridge made of pressure treated foot boards and fiberglass side railings -rare Koudo's to State of Mass (now maintain your roads getting here & we'll be all set). The foot bridge will take you to the right side of the stream where you'll undoubtedly look for a cache (placed by another cacher) You'll then continue up the right side of the river for about 1/4 of a mile and you'll be able to see a dark structure on the opposite side of the river(that will be the shelter i mentioned earlier).  There wasn't another bridge to cross back once again ; but with quick observation skills you'll see where you could navigate stepping from boulder to boulder to safety cross over to the shelter side.  Between the shelter & the outhouse area lies another cache(hidden by another cacher).  While visiting the shelter , i noticed a few hand saws left for wood cutting. If your planning on staying for what looks like a "free" nights stay -- think about mosquitos.  The shelter floor is about 20ft wide by 10 feet deep - in case you'll be bringing a small tent to place on the floor or a sleeping bag with a small mosquitos screen for your upper body/face protection. The landscape of where the shelter & outhouse are located - if you could imagine the shape of a letter "Y"  the shelter would be in the crotch of the "V" portion of the "Y".  I use the letter "Y" shape as there is a 2nd river at this location that joins the river you'll be following up stream -creating the "Y".  Either way -- this place get's 10 of my favorite points on a 10 possible scale!  Magnificently awesome!   Aside from this location - be absolutely certain to check out the twin cascading waterfalls along the houssac tunnel just a few miles away from this location. I've discovered many waterfalls in the past few years in Massachusetts - but this is breath taking! Now my #1 Mass waterfall(s) location.! (caches along the trek--1 of which is mine &1 Geo Mules).  Please close the strawberry cache tightly to keep it dry for the next cacher.  Have a Great Day! Thank you! Quiet Bear
