Hoone avati praeguse ringtee ääres 16. juunil 1940. aastal.
Kahte tornikiivrit siiski valmis ehitada ei õnnestunud, samuti jäi ära kirikuseinte krohvimine, sest järgmisel päeval tulid Eestisse sisse juba Nõukogude Liidu okupatsiooniväed. Kirik tegutses kümmekond aastat, seejärel hakati seda kasutama võimlana.
Praegu tegutseb Kalevi halli ruumides Rakvere Noortekeskus. Rakvere linnal on plaanis teha kirikuhoonest multifunktsionaalne kontserdimaja, mis koos lisahoonega moodustaks Arvo Pärdi nimelise muusikamaja.
[ENG] Kalev Hall is a unique gym, which was originally built as a church and for a short time also performed this function. Therefore, the gym is still known and called by several different names - Kalev gym, sports church, etc.
It is the church building of the Paulus congregation, which was created after the splitting of the Rakvere Kolmainu congregation in 1931, the author of the project of which is the well-known architect Alar Kotli. The building was opened by the current roundabout on June 16, 1940.
However, it was not possible to build the two-tower helmets, and the plastering of the church walls was also canceled because the next day the Soviet occupation forces came to Estonia. The church operated for about ten years, then it was used as a gym.
Currently, the Rakvere Youth Center operates in the premises of Kalev Hall. The city of Rakvere plans to turn the church building into a multifunctional concert hall, which would form a music house named after Arvo Pärt.
