Geocache Description:

[EST] Teatrimäel oli juba muinasajal asulapaik. Rahvapargi ja teatriõuele viiva tee vahelt on leitud savinõu kilde, mis on parit rauaajast (5.-9. saj) ja teine osa viikingi ajast.

16. saj teisel poolel asus siin mungaklooster. Rakvere frantsiskaani klooster (1508) oli üks Eestimaal keskajal tegutsenud neljast kloostrist. Säilinud müürid, mis laotud paekivist, on konserveeritud ja osaliselt vaadeldavad praeguses Rakvere Teatrikino hoones.

17. sajandist pärineb mõisa klassitsismi sugemetega historitsistlik peahoone. 1920ndatel ehitati algselt ühekorruseline hoone kahekorruseliseks.

Teatrimaja (arhitekt Johann Ostrat) ehitamist alustati 1929. aastal ja avati aktusega 24. veebruaril 1940. Päev hiljem mängiti teatrihoones August Kitzbergi näitemängu "Tuulte pöörises", mis oli esimene etendus Rakvere Teatris.

[ENG] Teatrimäe already had a settlement in ancient times. Fragments of pottery from the Iron Age (5th-9th centuries) and another part of Viking Age have been found between the national park and the road leading to the theatre courtyard.

In the second half of the 16th century, a monastery was located here. Rakvere Franciscan Monastery (1508) was one of the four monasteries operating in Estonia in the Middle Ages. The preserved walls, which are made of limestone, have been preserved and can be partially seen in the current Rakvere Theater Cinema building.

The historicist main building of the manor dates back to the 17th century. In the 1920s, a one-storey building was originally built as a two-storey building.

The construction of the theatre house (architect Johann Ostrat) began in 1929 and was opened with an act on February 24, 1940. A day later, August Kitzberg's play "In the Whirlwind of Winds" was played in the theatre building, which was the first performance at the Rakvere Theatre.
