Tootsi semi-station was built in 1927. The station was originally a branch of the quarry. According to the budget compiled in 1927, the construction of the two-storey station building cost a little over two million marks.
At the end of the 1920s, two trains a day passed Tootsi station in the direction of Pärnu and two trains in the direction of Tallinn. The trip to Pärnu lasted two and a half to three hours, to Tallinn five and a half to eight hours.
On May 1, 1930, the Tootsi Post Agency was opened at the railway station.
On the evening of May 7, 1932, at about seven o'clock, a train accident occurred on the Pärnu – Lelle narrow-gauge railway between Tootsi and Viluvere stations. Freight train No. 576 was on its way from Pärnu to Lelle with 27 wagons, six of which derailed.
In the era of narrow-gauge railways, the electrified railway network operating in Tootsi Turbatööstus even extended to Tootsi railway station. Until 2004, Tootsi station had four side roads.
The regular train traffic between Pärnu and Lelle was terminated on December 8, 2018. After that, the bus from the town of Tootsi will run instead.
Tootsi pooljaam rajati 1927. aastal. Jaamas asus algselt ka karjääri harutee. 1927. aastal kokku pandud eelarve kohaselt läks kahekorruseline jaamahoone ehitus maksma veidi üle kahe miljoni marga.
1920. aastate lõpus läbis Tootsi jaama päevas kaks rongi Pärnu suunas ja kaks rongi Tallinna suunas. Sõit Pärnusse kestis kaks ja pool kuni kolm tundi, Tallinna viis pool kuni kaheksa tundi.
1. mail 1930 avati raudteejaamas Tootsi postiagentuur.
1932. aasta 7. mai õhtul kella poole seitsme paiku toimus Pärnu–Lelle kitsarööpmelisel raudteel Tootsi ja Viluvere jaamade vahel rongiõnnetus. Kaubarong nr 576 oli teel Pärnust Lellesse 27 vaguniga, millest kuus sõitsid rööbastelt välja.
Kitsarööpmelise raudtee ajastul ulatus praegugi Tootsi Turbatööstuses toimiv elektrifitseeritud raudteevõrk ka Tootsi raudteejaamani. Kuni 2004. aastani oli Tootsi jaamas neli kõrvalteed.
Liinirongide liiklus Pärnu ja Lelle vahel lõpetati 8. detsembril aastal 2018. Peale mida liigub selle asmel buss Tootsi alevist.
