Tootsi peat industry started on July 21, 1937, when the emergency meeting of A/S Eesti Turbatööstused approved the proposal of the management board for the construction of the Pööravere briquette factory. The new factory was renamed Pööravere Briquette Industry, but during the construction of the factory it was renamed Tootsi Briquette Industry after the Tootsi cattle manor located near the company. A 3 km long branch road with a network of bog roads was built from Tootsi railway station to the completed factory. The factory started production in 1939. February and it still works today under the name Tootsi Turvas AS. In 1922–1924, the State Central Committee of Fuels built a 28 km long narrow-gauge railway from the Lavassaare bog through the Pootsi station to the right coast of the Pärnu River opposite the Sindi Kalev factory. The Lavassaare – Sindi peat railway also partially crossed the airport runway of Pärnu Airport, train traffic was stopped during air traffic. Later, the direction of the railway was changed and it was driven past the airport. Today, only an impressive bridge over the Sauga River has preserved of this peat railway.

Tootsi turbatööstus sai alguse 21.07.1937.a, kui A/S Eesti Turbatööstused erakorralisel peakoosolekul kiideti heaks juhatuse ettepanek Pööravere briketitehase rajamiseks. Uue tehase nimeks sai Pööravere Briketitööstus, kuid veel tehase ehitamise käigus nimetati firma lähedal asunud Tootsi karjamõisa järgi ümber Tootsi Briketitööstuseks. Tootsi rongijaamast rajati valmiva tehase juurde 3 km pikkune harutee koos rabateede võrguga. Tehas alustas tootmist 1939.a. veebruaris ning see töötab tänaseni kandes nime Tootsi Turvas AS. Aastatel 1922–1924 ehitas Riigi Kütteainete Keskkomitee 28 km pikkuse kitsarööpmelise raudtee Lavassaare rabast läbi Pootsi jaama kuni Pärnu jõe paremkaldani Sindi Kalevivabriku vastas. Lavassaare–Sindi turbaraudtee ületas osaliselt ka Pärnu lennuvälja stardirada, lennuliikluse ajaks peatati rongiliiklus. Hiljem raudtee suunda muudeti ja see juhiti lennuväljast mööda. Tänaseks on sellest turbaraudteest säilinud ainult efektne sild üle Sauga jõe.
Nullist 70 meetri raadiuses leiad kitsarööpmelise raudtee ja sellel näitusena seisvad rongid, vedurid, vagunid... Uudista ronge! Muuseum ootab kõiki!
