1930ndate aastate alguseni polnud üle Emajõe Tartust kuni Peipsini ühtegi silda, jõeületus toimus parvedel või koolmekohtades. Praegu on Emajõe idapoolsem sild Luunjas. Sealt enam kui 10 kilomeetrit edasi jagub külasid, kuid üle veel ei pääse. Aga vot Kavastus aitab rändureid ja kohalikke üle jõe parv või aerupaat. Parvega viiakse üle autod ning mootor- ja jalgrattad, jalgsi tulijad sõuab parvemees teisele kaldale paadiga.
Aarde logimiseks võta sisse positsioon parvel või emmal kummal kaldal ning pildista ennast, oma sõidukit või isiklikku eset koos parve või parvemehega, pilt saada mulle või postita logisse (mitte ära kirjuta, kelle logis sinu pilt on). Alati võib ka aidata parve üle vee vändata.

Veidi Kavastu parve ajaloost:
19. sajandi viimasel aastakümnel oli Kavastu mõisnikuks edumeelne parun Werner Wulff, kelle eestvõttel pandigi 1899. aastal kohalike liha- ja piimatootjate meeleheaks ka siinse küla juures üle Emajõe käima parv, mis ümbruskonna eluolu märgatavalt lihtsustas. Parvega jõe ületamine oli tollal siiski üsna ohtlik, mõnikord riskiti nii enda kui ka hobuste eluga.
Pea sajand hiljem, 1983. aastal katkes siinse parve üleveokett, parv ise kadus allavoolu ning hooratas vajus jõevoogudesse.
1999. aastal taaselustati sajandivanune traditsioon Luunja valla ja AS Giga koostöös. Originaalhooratas tõsteti jõepõhjast üles ja pandi taas tööle.

Until the beginning of the 1930s, there was no bridges over river Emajõgi from Tartu to lake Peipus, the river crossing was done with rafts. Currently, the easternmost bridge over Emajõgi is in Luunja. There are villages more than 10 kilometers from there, but no ways to cross the water. But here in Kavastu travelers and locals can cross the river with a raft or a rowing boat. Cars, motorbikes and bicycles are transported by raft, while those coming on foot are rowed across the river by the raftsman.
To log the cache, take a position on the raft or on either riverbank and take a picture of yourself, your vehicle or personal item with the raft or the raftsman. Post the pic to the log or send to me. And you can always help to crank the raft over the water.

A little about the history of the Kavastu raft:
In the last decade of the 19th century, the landlord of Kavastu was progressive baron Werner Wulff, on whose initiative in 1899, to the delight of the local meat and dairy producers, a raft was made to cross the river Emajõgi, which significantly simplified the living conditions of the surrounding area. Crossing the river with a raft was quite common at that time, sometimes risking both your and the your horses lives.
Almost a century later, in 1983, the raft’s transfer chain broke, the raft itself disappeared downstream and the flywheel sank.
In 1999, the century-old tradition was revived in cooperation between Luunja municipality and AS Giga. The original flywheel was raised from the riverbed and put back to work.
