Tereny pomiędzy ulicami Rycerską, Świecką i Pomorską przez wiele lat były zapleczem dla bydgoskiego węzła kolejowego. Ich intensywny rozwój rozpoczął się z chwilą zakupu działki po wyrobisku pod ekspedycję towarową. Parcelę przy ul. Rycerskiej Królewska Dyrekcja Kolejowa nabyła już w 1907 roku. Budynek dworca towarowego powstał około 1912 roku. Gmach z częścią administracyjną zamykający perspektywę ul. Zygmunta Augusta założony został na planie prostokąta o podstawie około 74 metrów. Do budynku dworca towarowego dobudowano dwa skrzydła z rampami przylegające do torów, zarówno po stronie północnej (część przeznaczona do załadunku ), jak i południowej (do rozładunku). Budynek był wyposażony w oświetlenie, wodociąg i ogrzewanie parowe. Wokół dworca wybrukowano wszystkie drogi i place, co niewątpliwie ułatwiło do niego dojazd.
Dworzec towarowy posiadał 6 zadaszonych torów. W ciągu jednego dnia dokonywano przeładunku około 400 ton towarów. Obiekt miał charakter stacji czołowej, co oznacza, że tory wybiegały tylko w jedną stronę, konkretnie w kierunku ulicy Gdańskiej. Główny gmach w środkowej części liczył 2 kondygnacje oraz poddasze. Wejście do dworca zostało zwieńczone szczytem, a w poddasze wkomponowano dwie lukarny. Część z głównym wejściem zdobiona jest pilastrami. Dach pokryto dachówką. Skrajne części obiektu są jednokondygnacyjne. W budynku frontowym przez lata funkcjonował m.in. skład celny a także lokale mieszkalne.

The area between Rycerska, Świecka and Pomorska Streets was for many years the backbone of the Bydgoszcz railway junction. Their intensive development began with the purchase of a plot of land after the excavation for goods shipment. The plot at Rycerska Street was purchased by the Royal Railway Directorate in 1907. The freight station building was built around 1912. The building with the administrative part closed the perspective of Zygmunt August Street. The freight station was founded on a rectangular plan with a base of about 74 meters. Two wings with ramps adjacent to the tracks were added to the building of the freight station, both on the north side (part for loading) and on the south side (for unloading). The building was equipped with lighting, water supply and steam heating. All roads and squares around the station were paved, which undoubtedly made access to it easier.
The freight station had 6 covered tracks. About 400 tons of goods were transhipped during one day. The facility had the character of a headend, which means that the tracks ran only one way, towards Gdańska Street. The main building in the central part had two floors and an attic. The entrance to the station was topped with a gable, and two dormers were incorporated into the attic. The part with the main entrance is decorated with pilasters. The roof is covered with tiles. The outermost parts of the building are single-storeyed. In the front building, for many years, there was customs warehouse and residential premises.
