Geocache Description:

The original Crown of Scotland cache was placed on the hill itself because of it's association with a Moffat Mountain Rescue Team rescue, it is a remote and difficult place to reach so not many hillwalking Geocachers managed to find it.

Link to the original Crown of Scotland cache

The hill's unusual name derives from the alliance made between Robert the Bruce and James Douglas, Lord of Douglas upon its summit in 1306, following the former's murder of the Red Comyn at Greyfriars kirk in Dumfries, and when Bruce was making for Glasgow to meet with Bishop Wishart.

The new cache is more accessible with an excellent view of Crown of Scotland, the container is hidden near the Annandale Way cairn below Spout Crag; the cairn marks the source of the Annan and is a symbolic starting point on the 55 mile walk via Moffat to Annan on the Solway Coast. You could follow the Annandale Way from Moffat which is a considerable but worthwhile hike, although there is a shorter walk from the Devil's Beeftub viewpoint parking waypoint; it is still an hour's walk from there, there are some wet and muddy sections, but you shouldn't need a map and compass.

Make a note of the bonus information inside the lid in order to be able to find the Bonus Cache:
Moffat MRT's 50th Anniversary Mystery Cache

Please do not log a Find if you have not signed the log, if you forget your pen that is too bad, it is a long walk and you need to be prepared, if for any other reason you can't sign the log you know what you have to do.

Please cover the cache as found to keep it hidden and to keep the rain and snow out.
