I didn't know Pete Gabarro, but seeing his name on a few things around town- he has a story to share.
J. Peter Gabarro was born in 1982. A gifted baseball player, he pitched for his team in the little league playoffs. A month later he collapsed pitching in the little league all-star series. After being taken to Boston for tests, Pete was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. He fought for 10 months and passed away in May of 1994 at twelve years old- but not before seeing the 1993 World Series in Toronto, courtesy of the Make a Wish Foundation.
His uniform #14 was retired, and April 30th is Pete Gabarro day in town. Pete watched the ceremony from a wheelchair saying "I was surprised, I didn't really expect it".
Take a moment to pause here and enjoy a moment of quiet for Pete. BYOP. Congrats to pprn4fn on FTF!
