Geschmögened Cache
Is that really a word?
Well, it is a word but it's one I totally made up. It's of Swedish derivation actually because it amuses me to invent linguistic derivations for my imaginary words.
I've been making up words since I was a small child. My mother said I often insisted on using words of my own contrivance instead of “boring grownup words.” I confess I can't remember a single one of them but this habit of wordsmithing developed into a minor personal trait.
Anyway, back to geschmögen. I coined this particular word in college where it escaped the confines of my personal usage and froliked free range within my fraternity for several semesters.
One moment, I just got an email from…umm…The Hrothgar-Ambivalent Nashoba Valley Association of Professional and Retired Geocachers…huh? You people really need to work on your branding but let's see what you have to say…
We wish to inform you that we have no interest whatsoever in your silly made up word so please move on. We wade through the nonsense you put in your descriptions with the expectation that you will provide us with relevant information but alas you so often disappoint us. We therefore request that you stop goofing around and tell us something useful about this so-called “geschmögen” cache. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Best regards, H.A.N.V.A.P.R.G.
Oh…I thought you folks liked my geocaches for their humorous and wildly imaginative descriptions. Finding the physical geocaches is just a bonus or almost beside the point, right?
A collective shout echoes across the Nashoba Valley
NOOOOO!!!
Well then…it seems my creativity is unappreciated. Please allow me a moment to collect my thoughts.
Hrothgar curls into the fetal position and sobs hysterically for nearly an hour before regaining his composure.
You know what people, this is my geocache and my description and I'm gonna tell you all about my made up word whether you like it or not. Hmm!
Geschmögen
Verb
- To shove something into a space in which it barely fits.
Example: Brenda did flaming shots of Bacardi 151 til she too trashed to drive so we had to geschmögen her between her two huge townie friends in the backseat of Will's Vega just to get her home.
Participle
- State or condition of an object occupying a space in which it barely fits
Example: So Gino has a bunch of beef jerky sticks geschmögened down his pants as he’s walking out the store and the checkout lady yells “Hand 'em over punk or I'll smack you silly!”
So what does this word have to do with my latest geocache? I'm sure you're dying to find out. While looking at the map of Cloverdale, I noticed a very small area of free space between the radii of Heap O’ Dead Trees Cache and another geocache…and I geschmögened this geocache into the gap! That payoff was totally worth all the tedious exposition, wasn't it?!
This cache is not particularly hard to find but you’ll likely get your knees wet searching for it. That's both a warning and a hint. The cache container rests upon a level surface. Also the trail map of Cloverdale is a bit off so its potentially disorienting.

Please be nice to nature.
Also, please note the location and orientation of the cache container before you retrieve it and put it back just as you found it.
