Flat Rock’s defining feature is its ancient granite ledges, shaped by glacial activity over thousands of years. These rocky outcrops create microhabitats for mosses, lichens, and small mammals, adding texture to the sanctuary’s landscape. The sanctuary spans over 300 acres in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, offering a rugged terrain for exploration. Visitors walking among the stones are witnessing the geological foundation of the region.
