Flat Rock gets its name from the broad granite ledges that define both its terrain and its character. These stone formations are the result of ancient geological forces, including glacial movement that carved and shaped the landscape thousands of years ago. The ledges host specialized plant life that thrives in shallow soils and sun-drenched conditions, adding texture and color to the rocky surface. From their elevated vantage points, visitors can take in sweeping views of the forest canopy and surrounding hills. Standing atop them offers a quiet moment to reflect on the deep history written into the land itself.
Flat Rock Wildlife Sanctuary is open dawn to dusk only.
This geocache was released for The BarterDash game leading up to the Johnny Appleseed GeoFest in October, 2025.
