Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the posted coordinates in Lake Cochichewick but is within two miles. In order to find the cache, you must find this tree somewhere in North Andover. This cache was placed to honor the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Lexington and Concord.

Recently I learned about a local movement to save a local tree from being chopped down. What's the fuss, you might ask? This tree is a very rare Witness Tree, meaning that it witnessed the American Revolution and thus saw the creation of our great country. Estimates say that the tree has been around since at least 1704. It was already 70+ years old when multiple North Andover residents including headed off to serve as minutemen in the early days of the American Revolution.

Perhaps the most well-known North Andover resident to serve in the Revolutionary War was Colonel James Frye. Frye previously served under George Washington's command in the French and Indian War. He led a company of Minutemen in Lexington and also served at Bunker Hill, where he was shot in the thigh with a British cannonball. More on Frye's incredible story of bravery can be found on his Wikipedia page here. While this isn't directly related to the cache puzzle, Frye's house on Chestnut Street may be torn down at some point in 2026, despite some local protests.

One North Andover resident lived right next to the witness tree and served in Frye's regiment. To get coordinates for this cache, input the name of this soldier into the Certitude checker (first and last name with no space between them). You'll then find the cache 15-20 feet away from the witness tree. You do not need to look in the tree itself.
