The Lewis Family Sphinx Grave: The most prominent local sphinx is a mysterious sphinx tombstone located in the Piscataquog Cemetery on 69 Bowman St in Manchester. Erected for the Lewis family patriarch in the early 20th century, this neo-Egyptian monument is a hidden historical curiosity in the city. The sphinx is a neo-egyptian symbol found in the 20th centery . It was meant to guard the tomb like foo dogs, or lions, which are more common. It is also a symbol of the Shriners, a subgroup of the Masons. It represents strength and protection.
