Mr Graphite would like to visit and have his photo taken in caches near hills or mountains around the world. Please post photos.
Mr Graphite is a small piece of Graphite (Wad) which was collected from a very old disused Wad mine found in Borrowdale, Cumbria (UK).The mine itself began production in 1597 (yes over 400 years ago), and stopped production in 1891. The graphite from this mine was considered the purest in the world!
Graphite is 100% pure carbon. Many people wrongly think that lead is the core of pencils, when it is in fact graphite (and various amounts of clay to produce different hardnesses eg, HB, 2H, 4H etc). Mr Graphite if removed from his bag will draw on paper.
Though greasy to touch the black carbon will easily wash off your hands and is completly harmless. Please remember to replace Mr Graphite in his plastic bag if taken out. Many thanks.
