About This Item

The Night Stalker

This travel bug was given to me by my mother-in-law after she heard about one of the logs for one of my caches. The log was written for "Aerial Intelligence - Baton Rouge" (GC1DN54), and was posted by Camposyka on July 4th 2008. The text of this log follows:

July 4, 2008 by Camposyka Well a day later and a proper approach and 2TF! The cache area is all clear now. Last night my wife and I decided that we would try to find this puzzle cache after I was sure I had found the maps intersection. We were correct, answered the questions and plugged the coords into our NUVI. If any of you know about car GPS systems is that when you enter coords it will take you to the closest street near the coords but not necessarily the best approach. Well we were able to park within 200ft or so from the cache but near some very thick woods. My wife wanted to find an easier route but I convinced her that I would just go have a look and maybe make a quick grab. It was dark (about 9pm) wet and VERY poor GPS reception. I was doing my best to follow the GPS shine the flashlight and navigate the underbrush. When I got to about 115ft I stepped into a small clearing and got the shock of my life. There in front of me was a human skeleton! I did a double take thinking it was a left over Halloween prank or something like that but there was no denying it. This was a complete human skeleton wearing tennis shoes. Needless to say 911 was called and the EBR sheriff arrived and I led them to the find. Of course their 1st question to me was "What were you doing here"? I should make some cards.

UPDATE: 02-01-2009 I just found out that it was the body of a mentally handicapped man about 35 Y/O who had wandered away from the "facility" where he was living 1 1/2 miles away. He had apparently gotten lost and just lay down where he was. I was told that he had been there about 9 months so this would have been during the winter. There was nothing that looked like a coat on the skeleton to me. It's a sad story in the end but at least a family now has closure.

Now if this is not an experience that will challenge your desire to night-cache, then I don't know what would. So in honor of this momentous log, and what has to be a story for the record books, I am releasing this creature of the night. (Cue spooky music) Happy haunting (I mean hunting).
