Hiding in holes, sneaking around at night, please keep me on the move. Ninu is one of a team of 5 travellers aiming to see the world.
The other four travellers are Karak, Koolah koala, Screeching Sammy, and Wandering Wally.
Ninu is a name derived from the western desert (Australia) for the bilby. The bilby is a member of the bandicoot family and is also known as arabbit - eared bandicoot. It is nocturnal, and lives in spiralling burrows up to 2 metres deep. They measure up to 55 centimetres in length (body only), and a tail up to 29 centimetres long. Bilby’s are marsupials, and have a pouch that opens backwards so as not to be filled with dirt while digging. Its large almost hairless ears provide great hearing and also help to keep the bilby cool, while the pink snout gives an excellent sense of smell. Bilby’s are omnivores, with some foods they eat including seeds, spiders, insects and their larvae, bulbs, fruit, fungi and small animals. They don’t drink water, getting all their water requirements from its food. The bilby is an endangered species.
