This bug is a National Parks Passport. It's purpose is to bring you to a National Park, hopefully one you've never visited before.
The passport is a book that lists all the National Parks in the US. It contains a map and is broken into regions dividing up the US. Each region has a section to stamp the "cancellation" and also a place to put a regional sticker if you choose. The "cancellation" stamp is a date stamp that has the name of the park along with the date of the visit. You can usually find the cancellation stamp at the visitor center desk. If you do not readily see one ask a ranger, they all know what they are. I have visited two of the parks for Oregon, Crater Lake and Fort Clatsop. John Day Fossil Beds and Oregon Caves are the only two left in Oregon to do.
Also in the bug bag is a small log to use for recording your visit to the park. Feel free to tell us about the park and your visit if you are so inclined. I found that there were other TB like this one but somehow were lost during their travels, I hope that this one does not encounter the same fate. If you take it outside of the US please bring it back with you. Thanks and enjoy our National Parks!
