About This Item

VINE Geocoin

Safety is a Right!
You can help ensure crime victims are kept informed about their offender!

December 6, 1993 in Louisville, KY Mary Byron walked to her car after work.  It was her 21st birthday and she was carrying balloons given to her by co-workers.  Unbeknownst to her, her ex-boyfriend, who had been arrested for raping her less than a month before, was waiting in the parking lot.  He had been bailed out; neither Mary nor her family had been made aware that he had been released from jail.  As she sat behind the wheel of her car, he approached from the driver’s side and fired seven bullets into her head and chest with a 9mm handgun.

Exactly one year after Mary’s murder, an automated telephone notification system for crime victims and other concerned citizens was instituted.  That system is VINE® – Victim Information and Notification Everyday – which is now used in thousands of communities across the nation.  VINE, created by Louisville, KY-based Appriss, Inc. is available in 47 states and Puerto Rico, providing peace of mind to thousands upon thousands of crime victims.  Free, anonymous registration ensures those victims will be notified by phone, email or text when there is a change in the custody status of their offender.  They can also check on the offender’s status anytime day or night, 365 days a year.
