We made it to Pocatello today, a city of about 60,000 in South Idaho. In order to get from St. George to here we traversed 4 passes between St George and Santaquin (about 384 km distance, all in Utah) - 6,000 feet, 6,500 feet, another 6,000 feet and then finally 5,000 feet at Santaquin, Utah. As a comparison for you Canadian readers, Roger's Pass is 4,400 feet, Kicking Horse Pass is 5,300 feet and Banff is 5,000 feet. As well, it felt like the entire state of Utah was engaged in road work, but while my side had to slow down, those going south were stopped and backed up on the I15 at Salt Lake City. Could have been much worse -- woot woot! Today was cooler than yesterday (surprise, surprise, surprise seeing we are no longer desert side), with the weather hovering at freezing at the first pass (7am traverse -- oh no, there's snow!), topping out at about 15 Celsius (60F). My brief listen to the news while driving through Provo mentioned a storm coming in tonight. Cross your fingers for good weather tomorrow!
