NASCAR Legends Race - #52

This TB is one of our Geocaching racing team, consisting of two 1960 Ford Grand National cars, the red Number 52, driven by Cale Yarbourough, and the white Number 66, driven by Johnny Allen.  Both of these cars are equipped with the massive 427 CI engine putting out 410 HP.  These cars are participating in a race to see which one can race the most miles from geocache to geocache.  If you have found one of our race team cars, please move it on to another cache as quickly as possible.  After all, this is a race and even though the number 66 is a long shot, stranger things have happened in auto racing.

The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) is a family-owned and operated business venture that sanctions and governs multiple auto racing sports events.  In 1960 the top tier NASCAR racing series was the Grand National Series, later called the Winston Cup Series and now known as the Sprint Cup Series.  1960 was the 12th season for the Grand National Series and the sport was dominated by now legendary drivers like Richard Petty, Ned Jarrett, Lee Petty, and Junior Johnson.

Our little Geocaching racing team consists of two 1960 Ford Grand National cars, the red Number 52, driven by Cale Yarbourough, and the white Number 66, driven by Johnny Allen.  Both of these cars are equipped with the massive 427 CI engine putting out 410 HP.  These cars are participating in a race to see which one can race the most miles from geocache to geocache.

The driver of our #66 Ford is Johnny Allen.  He was born September 17, 1934, in Greenville, South Carolina and was a NASCAR Grand National driver from 1955-1967.  He started in 173 races run over 13 years, but only won one race in his career, which occurred at the Myers Brothers 200 at the Bowman-Gray Stadium on June 16, 1962.  He scored 19 career top-five and 61 top-ten finishes.

The driver of our #52 Ford is Cale Yarborough.  He was born March 27, 1939 and is one of only two drivers in NASCAR history to win three consecutive championships.  His 83 wins places him at number six on the all-time NASCAR winner's list.  He has 560 career starts with 319 top-ten finishes.

If you have found one of our race team cars, please move it on to another cache as quickly as possible.  After all, this is a race and our number 52 is the odds on favorite, although stranger things have happened in auto racing.
