This is a moving trackable celebrating our 1000 finds since joining the Geocaching community. We have many great memories and experiences and would like to track this Geocoin on its travels to the many places it will go.
We would like it to go visit our geocache in Huntington Beach California to visit our friends who watch over the cache for us. It is called Peter's Sacred Door - GC1PG15.
The art on the coin was designed to celebrate our other love, the American Bald Eagle. The front of the coin is a bald eagle profile and it was drawn by hand and it depicts Pimu, which is a bald eagle in captivity. Pimu lives on Catalina Island and is taken care of by the great people of the Institute for Wildlife Studies. The IWS has re-introduced bald eagles to the islands off the coast of California after they disappeared due to the affects of DDT in their food source, fish. DDT was banned and some was dumped into the ocean off the coast and subsequently leaked. The eagles disappeared because the egg shells were to weak to produce chicks. You can learn more at iws.org.
The flip side has the tracking information and three web sites. woodennickelgeocoins.com is the company that produced the coins from our design. teamharpo.com is our geocaching website. And of course the geocaching.com web site is here. The image on this side is an interpretation of a bald eagle which is inspired by Pacific Northwest Coast Native art. Many of the paintings using this style are of animals and use just a few colors.
This is our first custom coin and we hope you enjoy it and MOVE IT to the next geocache.
