Spartan 01 - Michael P. Murphy, Danny P. Dietz, Matthew G. Axelson andMarcus Luttrell
Note: I would like to also point out that this is not made to take away from any other part of the Spartan team but to honor the entire Spartan team . I have chosen to single out Axe for the reason that when doing research and viewing Lone Survivor I made a personal connection.
~~Navy Sonar Technician Surface 2nd Class (SEAL) Matthew G. Axelson, 29, of Cupertino, Calif., was assigned to SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team 1, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Died while conducting counterterrorism operations in Kunar Province, Afghanistan. Axelson was part of a dedicated team fighting the Taliban, a fundamentalist regime that a U.S.-led coalition knocked from power in Afghanistan in 2001, but has continued to conduct guerilla operations, particularly along the Pakistan border. Axelson worked to help ensure al Qaeda terrorists could no longer train in, nor launch strikes from Afghanistan since their lethal attack on the World Trade Center in New York on September 11, 2001. A champion of freedom, Petty Officer Axelson will be remembered for his self-sacrificing actions in the continuing Global War on Terrorism.
