(CZ) Orel bělohlavý (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) je velký dravý pták žijící v Severní Americe. Je to národní pták a státní symbol Spojených států amerických. Vyskytuje se na většině území Kanady a Aljašky, v celých kontinentálních Spojených státech a na severu Mexika, většinou poblíž velkých otevřených vod s bohatými zásobami potravy a starými stromy na hnízdění. Má dva poddruhy, jižní H. l. leucocephalus a severní H. l. washingtoniensis, jejichž areály jsou vymezeny zhruba rovnoběžkou 38° severní šířky.
(EN) Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) is a large bird of prey living in North America. It is the national bird and national symbol of the United States. It occurs in most regions of Canada and Alaska, throughout the continental United States and northern Mexico, usually near large open waters with ample supplies of food and nesting on old trees. There are two subspecies, the southern H. l. Leucocephalus and Northern H. l. Washingtoniensis whose areas are defined roughly parallel of 38 ° north latitude.
(CZ) Na konci 20. století byl orel bělohlavý v kontinentálních Spojených státech na pokraji vyhynutí, zatímco na většině území Aljašky a Kanady byl hojný. Poté se však jeho populace v USA obnovila a ustálila, takže byl 12. července 1995 přesunut ze seznamu ohrožených druhů USA na seznam mírně ohrožených a 28. června 2007 byl odstraněn i z tohoto seznamu.
(EN) At the end of the 20th century was a bald eagle in the continental United States to the brink of extinction, while across most of Alaska and Canada were plentiful. But then the US population restored and stabilized, so was July 12, 1995 moved from the list of threatened species on the US list of endangered moderately and 28 June 2007 has been removed from this list.
