You've discovered the Kangaroo from Canberra!
Where's Canberra?!
Canberra is the capital of Australia.
Did you think it was Sydney or Melbourne?
Canberra is located between the two cities as a way of settling the dispute as to where the capital would be established. Sydney wanted Sydney and Melbourne wanted Melbourne.
A bit of interesting history I have learned since moving to Canberra in 2018. I grew up in Florida so I thought it was interesting that an American woman helped build this town!
For thousands of years, the indigenous Ngunnawal people lived in the Canberra region, and the name 'Canberra' is believed to be derived from an indigenous word meaning 'meeting place'. The first European explorers arrived in the Canberra area in 1820 and the first settlers came in 1824. During the 19th century, the European settlement slowly grew but the indigenous people were devastated by European diseases.
In 1901 the different Australian colonies formed the Commonwealth of Australia. The new country needed a capital and both Sydney and Melbourne wanted the honor. However, in 1908 it was decided to build a new capital in Canberra. A competition to design the new city was held and in 1912 American architects Walter Burley Griffin and his wife, Marion Mahoney Griffin won it.
One of the lesser mentioned facts about Marion is that she collaborated with Frank Lloyd Wright as one of the first female architects. She graduated MIT and went to work with Wright for fourteen years before meeting and marrying Walter. They worked together on the Canberra project with Walter being the ideas man and Marion as the draftswoman! You can see Marion's art deco influence in the layout of the city.
Canberra houses lots of cultural icons:
Parliament Houses (one Old and one New)
Royal Australian Mint
High Court of Australia
Australian War Memorial
National Museum of Australia
National Zoo and Aquarium
Australian Institute of Sport
Australian National Botanic Garden
National Library of Australia
Canberra is known as the "Bush Capital" because it is common to spot wildlife, including kanagroos, all over this beautiful city! Canberra is hosting a Geocaching Mega event in 2024 ... Hop down under and visit us!

Seems I'm the first to discover this TB!
Discovered whilst on a spontaneous two-day solo weekend of geocaching in Canberra from my home on the central coast north of Sydney. 2022 has been a rather disrupting year which has been further plagued with a final year of study and long working hours for me so I haven't had a lot of headspace for caching so, as you might understand, I'm having a wonderful weekend! I occasionally make special trips to places like CBR as it is one of the great places to geocache probably in the world. I've generally done a lot of travel both domestically and abroad over the years and geocaching began as a companion on my travels back in 2016 when we discovered this great game, far too late IMO. Better late than never though.
Discovered this TB in The Spindoctors' Forgotten heroes cache on Mount Ainslie in the ACT (AU). Thanks for releasing and all the best with the travels.
