The mission of this Gasteracantha Clavigera spiny spider is to return to the lands from India to the Philippines and Indonesia (per Wikipedia they originate from there). We do realize that this spider will need to do some serious international travel and hopefully you will be allowed to get the spider through customs!
Please take pictures of me and post them online!
Gasteracantha clavigera is a species of spider in the spiny orb-weaver genus Gasteracantha.
Gasteracantha clavigera occurs in the Philippines. Dahl (1914) noted specimens from Manila and Samar and contemporary studies and observations report the species from several islands in the Philippines. Dahl echoed his doubt and noted two additional specimens labeled only "Ostindien," a broad and old-fashioned German term that included lands from India to the Philippines and Indonesia.
Spiny spider or spined spider is a common name for several species of spiders that exhibit spine-like projections on their body. Like most other arachnids, their diet consists of the small insects they are able to capture in its web. Common insects eaten by spiny orb-weavers include moths, beetles, mosquitoes, and flies.
