As you take these groumets from cache to cache, take a moment to look at them and remember the sacrifices made to protect our country and our flag! This is my tribute to my son who was part of the flag retirement ceremony and has now taken his oath into the Air Force.
The United States Code stipulates, “When a U.S. flag is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, it should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”
In 2019 Texas Trail Life Troop conducted a flag retirement ceremony for many flags that had been considered not suitable for presentation any longer. The color guard stood watch all night over the fire to make sure nothing was left except for the metal groumets. These are two of the groumets that remained and the rest were buried. Let these two groumets remind us all of the great sacrifices made by ALL First Responders, and service men/women to protect our country from threats both foreign and domestic.
