Current Goal

I want to travel from cache to cache hearing your stories of remberence or service. This could be a story a family member told you, a friend, or a chance to reflect on your own service.

Locations with a military history are a bonus. Please take plenty of photos, or upload some old photos.

The idea for the Remembrance Poppy was conceived by Madame Anna Guérin of France. She was inspired by John McCrae’s poem “In Flanders Fields.” Anna had originally founded a charity to help rebuild regions of France torn apart by the First World War, and created poppies made of fabric to raise funds.

The sister TB to The little poppy which was released in France 2022.

Thank you for the trackable. We will move it on for you.

I have many stories my grandad told me about his time serving in the navy on the hms vengence. Vengence was an aircraft carrier and he would tell me stories of a plane coming in to land but not stopping and flying straight off the other end and into the sea...and that it seemed a miracle that the pilot escaped alive. It seemed common that many of them serving on the ship could not swim and so this pilot got lucky by being one of the few who could.

Grandad said they would have swimming lessons on board by laying on benches and moving their arms and legs as if they were swimming..but he also confirms that none of them successfully learnt to swim this way 🤣

Before I joined the RAF I spent my summer walking/running up these hills to get fit!

While I wouldn’t necessarily recommend that course of action, as the risk of a twisted ankle is far too high up here, I still look back fondly on that summer.
