I formerly lived for some time in Ukraine. When I was there, I took a tour of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. It was one of the most interesting and memorable experiences I've ever had. I learned a lot about Soviet and European history, and how this one disaster reshaped the world at the time.

While I was there, I found a virtual lab and an Adventure Lab series. There are only a few traditional caches in the area due to restrictions on taking and leaving items in the Exclusion Zone (it is extremely illegal to take anything from the zone, punishable by jail time). At the border gate of the zone, there was a tourist shop where I bought some souvenirs. This one seemed like it would make a good trackable, so I attached it to this Adventure Labs trackable tag.

I hung onto the trackable for a while, as I do with many of them; I like to carry them with me to get some miles and adventures before releasing them. When the war in Ukraine broke out in February 2022, I was hesitant to release the trackable because I wasn't sure if it would be the most tactful thing to put out such a souvenir, especially because Russia had for a period of time taken over the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, which created a lot of fear of radiation release across Europe. Fortunately, Ukraine was able to regain control over the zone and power plant within a couple of weeks, restoring safety in the area.

I've decided that I will go ahead and release the trackable in honor of the heroes who have defended the Exclusion Zone to keep all of Europe safe from what could have been a major disaster. Heroyam Slava - Glory to the Heroes.
