From the webpage for this coin:
While falling down the Youtube rabbit-hole of bushcraft tricks and tips recently, I saw an episode about the importance of hanging your gear when you stop for a rest in the woods. Hanging your gear up off the ground keeps away dirt, water, debris and bugs like ticks from taking a ride. Dry, elevated gear will last longer and require less maintenance. The bushcraft instructor showed a simple way to use a series of knots and various pieces of paracord to hang your bag, coat, pack, etc. up off the ground. I liked the idea, but promptly forgot the series of knots he used within a day. Later, I thought it would just be easier to use a carabiner to hang it up (like I have on the grab handle of my own swagbag), but unfortunately, it requires a pretty specific size branch be available at just the right height. What if we could combine the two ideas and hang a bag securely on any size tree, boulder, limb (or heck, even a cactus if you're brave enough), etc.? Nothing immediately came to mind, and I promptly forgot about it. Then, while musing over the idea of a functional geocoin for the new year, it suddenly struck me... I could just use tension the same way we did with the MicroBite Geocoin! Use gravity to provide vertical drop from one corner, which would provide increased friction on the paracord wrapped around any object. So, the weight of your bag would normally make your ability to keep it hanging harder, but with this design it actually improves the efficiency. Add a series of knots and you can make your adjustments even more secure. I knew I took that high school physics elective for a reason! Who knew it would come in handy 30 years later for making it easier to hang your swagbag while you stop to log into a cache?!! Thanks, Mr. Kietrys !
